Horton Street Seniors Centre Upcoming Trips

Pride and Prejudice- Thursday March 11th, 2010

Tickets are still available for the March 11th trip to see Pride and Prejudice at the Grand Theatre.  We are meeting at Winks Eatery at 11:15am to enjoy a nice lunch before walking down to the Grand for a 1:00pm matinee.  Transportation is not provided however, Winks Eatery is located on Albert Street just off of Richmond in downtown London and is only a short walk to the theatre.  Lunch is all-inclusive and members can choose from several different meal options.

Pride and Prejudice is the classic love story written by Jane Austen.  The story is based in the 19th century, known as the Regency Era, and follows Elizabeth and her four sisters in their relentless pursuit for suitable husbands.  Don’t miss out on this delightful romantic comedy, get your tickets today at the information booth.  Tickets are $35 for members and $36 for non-members.

Mystery Trip- Friday April 9th, 2010

Looking for a sense of the unknown?  Take a trip where you won’t know where you’re going until you get there.  On April 9th we are having a mystery trip which will depart from the club at 9:00am and return at approximately 4:00pm.  This full day of events will involve several stops, lunch, and more.  Be the first to find out where this trip takes us, grab your tickets today!

Rock n’ Roll Heaven- Wednesday May 12th, 2010

If you like excitement this is the trip for you!  On May 12th we are attending Rock n’ Roll Heaven at the Famous People Players in Etobicoke.  The bus departs the club at 9:00am and leaves White Oaks Mall at 9:15am.  

Come experience genuine hospitality and first class service as we enjoy lunch in the Famous People Players’ dining room before the performance.  Following the meal, we will be escorted to the Phil Collins Theatre to watch the thrilling performance.  After the performance dessert, coffee, and tea are served before we get back on the bus return to London at approximately 6:00pm.  

Famous People Players are known throughout the world for their award winning black-light theatre and imaginative, inspirational work.  Rock n’ roll Heaven is no exception.  Come see this sensational show as 2 kings meet in Rock n’ Roll Heaven and create an explosion in black light.  You’ll be moon-walking in blue suede shoes to the greatest beat the world has ever known! 

Tickets are $89 for members and $90 for non-members and are available at the information booth.  You won’t be disappointed. 

Tap Dogs- Thursday June 10th, 2010

Witness the reinvention of tap dancing as we head off to see Tap Dogs on June 10th.  The performance is at St. Jacobs Schoolhouse Theatre and we are departing the club at 9:30am and departing White Oaks Mall at 9:45am.  We will be stopping at Crossroads Family Restaurant to enjoy an extravagant all inclusive buffet.  Crossroads offers soups, bread, a salad bar, hot buffet with four main dishes, rice, vegetables, potatoes, ice-cream bar, dessert table with several varieties of homemade pies and more.  If you can stay awake after the meal, time has been put aside to shop in downtown St. Jacobs before the show.

            We will depart for the theatre at 1:15pm, the show begins at 2:00pm.  Tap Dogs has played to rave reviews across the world and has won eleven international awards.  The spectacle runs 90 minutes as six remarkable male dancer’s tap dance across a steel construction-site set.  This sensational performance is a must see, don’t miss out on the energy and the excitement.  Tickets are $85 for members and $86 for non-members.

Upcoming Programs for 55+ at Glen Cairn

The following programs will be offered in the upcoming months for our 55+ community members:

 

1. Computer Classes

Learn to search for the information you need, use your e-mail more effectively, and learn to us the internet more effectively. Glen Cairn and Pond Mills residents aged 55 and better. Thursdays @ 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  call 519-668-2745 for more info

2. Fitness/Walking Program 

Our walking/fitness program is an excellent opportunity to get out and exercise. We focus on functional fitness and easy aerobic walking:Tuesdays 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

3: Euchre

Drop in and play Euchre for fun and a little friendly competition. Fridays 1:30 pm–3:30 pm

4: 55+ Club Drop-in

 Information sharing and a time for social fun, Wii bowling and companionship. Mondays 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

5: Acorns and Oak trees

An intergenerational program that matches seniors with children from the community.  The group gathers each month to engage in a variety of activities that help foster the relationship between the two generations.

All acorns and Oak trees are from 1-3 pm

Seniors Christmas Sing Along

A group of our 55+ group came together to sing some carols and share some Christmas cheer. Karoke and cookies was enjoyed by all.
